What is pallet delivery?

If you’re a growing business then you may have been asked to have your stock delivered using a pallet delivery service. But what exactly is pallet delivery? As same day couriers, we explain everything below.

What is pallet delivery?

Pallet delivery is a system used by business across the world to transport goods. Pallets are usually made from wood and provides a suitable flat service to hold multiple products or heavy products.

Pallet delivery can be a more complex process than a standard delivery service. This is because you may need larger vehicles and you have to ensure everything is packed and secured correctly.

How does pallet delivery work?

Pallet delivery is a reliable and efficient way to transport goods. The process starts by placing items onto a pallet and securing them with straps, stretch wrap, or shrink wrap. Once secured, the pallet can be transported through a dedicated courier or delivery service such as SameDayToday, where a driver will pick it up.

Alternatively, it may be collected by the logistics provider if using a warehousing service. Forklifts or pallet trucks are commonly used to handle pallets.

The cost of pallet delivery varies based on the pallet’s size, weight, and the chosen delivery method, such as road or air freight. During transit, the pallet is continuously tracked to ensure it reaches its destination safely. This method provides businesses with a cost-effective solution for quick and secure goods transportation, making it a preferred choice for global shipping needs.

Preparing for pallet delivery

To ensure safe delivery of all your items, you’ll want to ensure your pallets are prepared correctly. This helps your goods to move through the network quickly and also avoids any injury.

  1. You’ll first want to decide on how many items you are shipping which will help you to choose your pallet size. Pallets come in sizes such as
  • Full Pallet: 4m x 1m with a maximum height of 2.2 metres
  • Light Pallet: 1.2m x 1m x 2.2m high
  • Quarter Pallet: Less than 60cm in height

Once you have your measurements you can then book your delivery in with a courier such as SameDayToday Couriers.

2. The next step is to wrap your items. Use shrink wrap and secure everything tightly to ensure everything arrives safely, together and in one piece.

3. Don’t forget to stack your items. If using multiple boxes of the same size, arrange them in columns, one on top of the other.

Warning: Never use a damaged pallet. It could damage your goods and hurt the courier or delivery driver.

Shipping large items on a pallet

It’s not just the size of the pallet you need to think about. Weight plays an important factor as well.

Each pallet will have a load limit. If you go over this limit then it may damage the pallet. You could also have your delivery refused by the courier.

Ensure you know the exact weight of each pallet before booking them in.

What can I send on a pallet?

You can send almost anything on a pallet, as long as it meets size and weight requirements and can be stacked. With this being said, check with the courier you use for a prohibited item list.

Types of items sent on a pallet can include:

  • Machinery and applicances
  • Building materials such as bricks or cement
  • Large engines
  • Multiple boxes going to the same designation
  • Stock to go to a retail store
  • Plus much more
